Writer of letter on ‘migrant’ drivers must be psychic

Response to: “Migrants Should Respect Other Drivers or Leave,” The Union, July 12, 2002.

It appears that a previous letter writer was not only responsible for Highway 49’s repair and maintenance, but now also enjoys a “sixth sense” for identifying speeders and the origin of those drivers who are behind him blinking for him to move over. He lumps in all such offenders as “migrants” i.e., newcomers to the county. I would seek his counsel as to how he is able to make such determination while piloting his Buick or watching cars speed by.

Once again, blame is narrowly cast on the “newcomers” to the county, without the slightest bit of evidence that such people are, in fact, responsible. If the letter writer has difficulty, as he states, in judging the speed of oncoming cars while he is waiting to pull into Highway 49, then perhaps he should consider giving up his driving privilege for his safety and the safety of other drivers.
