Wonderful legacy

The article about the covered bridge house caught my interest. The picture was great. The original builders of the remarkable structure were the local and influential art historians, Osborn and Woods. The replica bridge, as well as location, was part of their vision of maintaining the land in view from Nevada City, Sugarloaf Mountain, as part of the historic past and current image of the old gold rush town. This insightful vision is now a great asset to the town. Osborn and Woods owned and were the saving grace of the Miners Foundry, brick building (J.J. Jacksons) at Pine and Commercial Streets and the Broad Street cottage, now the Two Room Inn, formerly the Teddy Bear Castle. Their vision, restoration and cultivation of Nevada City was important in the creation of the environment and attraction of the town we all now enjoy. They were founders of the local house and garden tours, Robbie Burns Night, Teddy Bear Convention, many other fascinating cultural innovations that have found a place in the local cultural scene. Osborn and Woods owned and preserved some of the most interesting and valuable property in Nevada City. They did not make any great real estate gains in the process; they used their personal energy, vision and funds to accomplish something of incredible value.
