Witney-Smith – Lagen engagement

Dr. Caroline Jane Witney-Smith and Mr. Christopher Thomas Lagen have announced their engagement.

The future bride is the daughter of Mrs. Jane Witney-Smith and the late Mr. David Witney-Smith, of Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire, England.

She attended schools in England, earning a first-class honors degree in molecular medicine and a MBBS (bachelor of medicine and surgery) at University College, London. She currently is on a surgical training program in Yorkshire, England.

The future groom is the elder son of Judith Lagen of Grass Valley, and Douglas Lagen of Nipomo, Calif.

He attended schools locally at Alta Sierra Elementary and Magnolia Intermediate, graduating from Arroyo Grande High School and University of California, Santa Barbara, summa cum laude with degrees in anthropology and Spanish. Postgraduate work in archaeological science followed at University of California, Los Angeles and at the Institute of Archaeology, University College, London, where he currently is completing his doctorate. A longtime fencer, he and the future bride met on the UCL fencing team.

The wedding is planned for July 2009 in Buckinghamshire, England, where family and friends will attend.
