Wildfire consultant recommended

A board studying a county wildfire plan recommended that the county hire an outside consultant to develop the plan.

The unanimous decision at the Nevada County Building Standards Code Board of Appeals’ meeting last month ended that board’s work on whether to have a plan.

The next steps, if any, will be up to the county supervisors.

“We met our deadline,” said Denis Kutch, an appeals board member. “Now it’s up to them.”

Kutch said the matter has not yet made any upcoming supervisors’ agendas.

The board also recommended that a committee made up of various community groups and county officials oversee the plan development.

The building standards board studied fireproof materials for homes earlier this year, but backed off from incorporating them into the county’s building code.

It decided instead to recommend that county supervisors look at a county wildfire protection plan.
