Who’s the real loser?
Earlier this week, after a trip to the store, I got into my car and noticed a small piece of paper tucked under the wiper on my windshield. Happily thinking that someone had left me a nice note, I read the words “You’re also a liberal loser! Get out of Nevada County … NH 2020 isn’t wanted here!” I have three stickers on my car – one is a small Chinese symbol for peace, one states “Evolution Is” and one shows my support for the county’s NH 2020 program. So the question becomes – who is the loser here? What type of individual would threaten a 30-year-old woman in a station wagon with her two small children? This isn’t the first time I have been threatened for my opinion on the county’s NH 2020 program. Last fall a large white pickup truck sporting a “Stop NH 2020” sticker tried to rear-end my vehicle while I was driving through Nevada City. And yes, my children were in the car. Now, I don’t know about anyone else, but I find this behavior slightly disturbing. Do these individuals think that I am just going to up and leave my home just because they believe my opinion is wrong and theirs is right? Am I in America?
I have read the literature. I have attended the meetings. I have talked with members of the community. NH 2020 is a benign program that will only enhance our quality of life here in Nevada County. I am grateful to our Board of Supervisors for having the intelligence and integrity to believe in such a program. Being educated and prepared for the future is not only smart, but is also necessary for our children’s future.
I urge everyone to learn more about the NH 2020 program, talk to your elected officials – who, by the way, were elected by the majority.
