Where were the firefighters?

A residence near Washington occupied by three people burned to the ground last Sunday morning. There was no attempt by any fire department to save the building, or to give immediate medical assistance to the one injured occupant.

Why did the Washington Fire Department, stationed four miles away, not respond to this fire after the 911 operator attempted to contact them?

Why was a fire engine dispatched from a CDF station 40 miles away? And why was this engine sent when it could not reach the fire scene because the engine was too large to cross a bridge that the county board of supervisors refused to repair several years ago?

People who live away from cities cannot, and do not, expect the fire department, or the sheriff’s people, to instantly be available for assistance during an emergency; however, we do expect a reasonable response to any emergency. This was not given in this case. For the first two hours of this fire, the only assistance (?) given was two administrative fire officials with no fire fighting equipment available for them to use.

When firemen with equipment arrived after about two hours, they did a very good job of cooling down the hot ashes. The fact that the home was burned to the ground prior to their arrival is beside the point. The point is, why was no serious attempt for assistance given to this emergency?
