What’s wrong with having info?

How can a thinking person oppose information gathering as a process for this county to remain as attractive as it is now? What frightens people about finding out what all the citizens want? I have read the explanation of the NH 2020 process and attended a community meeting early on where small groups were arranged so that questions and opinions were easily expressed. I thought it was very well done. When concerns have been raised the Board of Supervisors responded, for example adding more people to the committee to make it balanced, passing a property owners bill of rights, and arranging for the citizens to vote on the results. I’m looking forward to what the working groups will recommend.

The opposition seemed to resent the fact that the procedure was democratic. Having observed Nevada County politics for over 25 years, I am suspicious that those who so long dominated the political scene are terrified that the electorate have put others in their place and intend now to regain power by financing a campaign based on fear and mistrust and deception.

Let us hope elections can be based on real issues and what each candidate really represents. How will each candidate work to keep our county a friendly, safe place for families, for good schools, pleasant parks, recreation facilities that engage our children, areas for business and industry appropriate to this environment, leaving small farms and vineyards continuing to operate and some clustered housing with usable public transportation.
