What is the will of the people?

The people have spoken, and change is upon us. As Democracy demands, the will of the people must be heard, and that will is apparent in Nevada County.

But what is that will? Is it a mandate for more growth (read: development), or is it a refutation of some aspects of the recent past administration? I don’t believe the former, and I don’t think the newly elected should either. Presuming that the majority in this county support unplanned growth, increased deforestation, or any loss of our quality of life would be a grievous error by any new county official.

This county’s greatest threat is sprawl. To be condemned to the wilderness of sameness with most of western Sacramento County, even some of our sister communities in the foothills. The recent past county administration attempted to fight that sprawl and to preserve the qualities that make Nevada County the place that it was, is and should be. We now entrust that vision to a new administration. I remind them that their duty is to preserve that trust.
