What are voting rights?

What are the “laws” regarding who gets to vote for local city officials?

My husband and I are registered voters, live outside city limits, but have never received a ballot regarding city officials. Yes, we receive ballots for the county, but not for city positions. If I put “Grass Valley” as my residence, shouldn’t I be entitled to vote for city officials?

We pay plenty of taxes that goes to the county, the city, schools, roads, etc.

Are local elections only for registered voters who live within “city limits?” If so, why? If you want us to shop locally, support local groups, etc., then I say “Let us in on the voting.”

I’ll bet you would be in for a big surprise – or is that something you don’t want?

Mr. Mayor, city council members – could you explain?
