We’re all eco-terrorists?

I propose we reserve the term “eco-terrorist” to describe those persons and organizations whose actions terrorize us all by making this world difficult or painful to inhabit for biological life as we know it.

Eco-terrorist candidates would be corporations like Monsanto whose technological manipulation of the genetic material in every major food crop strikes terror in my heart. How long before these foods are proven to be toxic rather than nutritious?

Chemical manufacturers such as Dow would also be candidates as they release hundreds of untested or little-tested chemicals into our environment each year. Things like Teflon. Can we realistically expect a generation of children already suffering from epidemics ranging from depression to autism to live long, healthy lives while their air, water and food are enmeshed in a chemical soup?

Perhaps the day the Gulf Stream stop and we all begin to live the reality of climate change, we will understand that the oil-guzzling, consumptive, comfortable lifestyle the world has come to think of as “American” has made eco-terrorists of us all.
