We got ’em all

I love this county! I realized I had found (after 20 years of peregrinating from four SoCal counties) my place in the sun-rain-snow.

One of my first hints was when I went to the Nevada County Fair 10 years ago and, walking around, saw things that I remembered from my childhood in Indiana: rides that delighted 6-year-olds, not ones designed to wring the adrenal glands of 16-year-old boys; food that could constrict the arteries of an elephant; great beers; and crafts of all types.

But my favorite sight from my first Nevada County Fair is a picture I took and still have on my refrigerator. Two booths placed side by side for local citizens to hand out their brochures. They were the John Birch Society and the Sierra Club. The Lokiesque humor of the location assignment was, as I now know, true Nevada County.

Yes, sir, we got ’em all. Lefties, righties, hippies, survivalists, and, still fighting the Communist threat – the Birchers.
