Watch out for this rising star

I attended Grace Abarca’s benefit concert Saturday evening for City Center Playhouse. It was one of the most spectacular concerts I have had the pleasure of attending. For those of you who missed the concert, I have to say, “You missed some of the most beautiful music you could ever hear.”

Her voice has an unbelievable range taking the audience through Broadway hits like “Memories” from “Cats,” “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables,” “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from “Evita ” which gave everyone goosebumps, and a rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which brought tears to every person in the theatre. There was much more, including salsa, pop and country. The costuming was also wonderful, which added feeling to each number.

Grace was awarded many prestigious honors in her home in Costa Rica for her singing talents. She has recorded three CDs and the country of Costa Rica released a Sony Music CD featuring a compilation of the best female singers in Costa Rica. Three of Grace’s songs were chosen for this special CD. She has a new CD coming out in February, titled “Broadway.” All of the songs she sang at the concert will be included. There are 31 wonderful Broadway songs on a two-CD set.

Grace has done a number of benefits in this area for the short time she has been in this country and for the moment lives in Penn Valley. If you get another chance to hear her, don’t miss it. I expect she will be on stage in New York or London soon. She is amazing!
