Wants to see country make the right decision

I would like to make a few comments on Jeff Ackerman’s Feb. 4 article. As one of the hundreds of thousands who are marching the streets today, I have never suggested we do nothing. I just don’t believe invading Iraq is the best solution.

Even Norman Schwarzkopf still believes that U.N. inspections are the best course to follow. Like him, I am worried about the potential human and financial costs of occupying Iraq.

The 1988 poisoning of 5,000 Kurds was a monstrous thing. Unfortunately, we were allies with Iraq at the time and it is believed that we provided the helicopters that were used to deliver the gas. We remained allies and continued to provide military aid to Iraq until the 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

I love my country and I want to see it make the right decisions. A unilateral first strike against Iraq would be illegal and would outrage many people around the world. The proposed war plan makes me feel unsafe here at home.
