Volunteer Action Center

The Nevada County Volunteer Action Center matches the time and talents of volunteers with opportunities to help individuals and nonprofit organizations that provide human services. For information on the following positions or other volunteer jobs, call 272-5041, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays; or stop by 11743 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley.

Office helper

Support an organization that teaches independent living skills to developmentally disabled adults. Answer telephones, file, type and/or help with mailings. Hours flexible.

Trail worker

Help maintain a nature trail that is open to all. Move tools and materials to job sites, remove and replace boards on flumes, and clean up and improve trail surface. Carpentry skills a plus, but not required. Two to six hours per work session, various times.

Teen-age docents

Introduce young children to science in this interactive, hands-on museum. Mature teens needed to guide and educate children on Friday evenings or weekends. Training provided.

Special-event aides

This annual event which benefits young children, families and early-childhood educators. Help with parking, welcoming attendees, handing out materials, patrolling grounds, etc. Two- to four-hour shifts on May 4.
