The Nevada County Volunteer Action Center matches the time and talents of volunteers with opportunities to help individuals and nonprofit organizations that provide human services. For information on the following positions or other volunteer jobs, call 272-5041, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays; or stop by 11743 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley.

Rose caretaker

Prune, shape, weed and fertilize rose bushes in a beautiful old rose garden in Grass Valley. Flexible hours.

Activities assistant

Warm-hearted and patient volunteers can help brighten the days of brain impaired adults in a local day care. Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, calling bingo and playing board games, making decorations, helping with exercise, etc. Training provided and time is flexible.


Organization that teaches independent-living skills to developmentally disabled adults needs volunteers for its popular handmade crafts store. Assist customers, work cash register and do window displays. Training will be provided and time is flexible.



Good telephone and people skills needed by organization that works to ensure that our county’s natural beauty is accessible to people with disabilities. Duties include calling and scheduling volunteers and can be done from home.
