The Nevada County Volunteer Action Center matches the time and talents of volunteers with opportunities to help individuals and nonprofit organizations that provide human services. For information on the following positions or other volunteer jobs, call 272-5041, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays; or stop by 11743 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley.



Docents




Nature-loving volunteers needed to help make nature presentations in local elementary schools. This is a fun opportunity to share the wonders of the natural world with young children. Training provided (training is ongoing; the next workshop will be held in March)

Mechanic

Local organization that works to ensure that our county’s natural beauty is accessible to people with disabilities seeks your mechanical skills. Volunteer needed to repair and maintain chain saws and Honda 3-wheeler used in trail maintenance. Time is flexible.

English tutor

Many adults who have immigrated to our community are isolated because of their limited ability to speak English. You can make a big difference in someone’s life by providing English tutoring in this one-on-one program. No foreign language is required. Training workshop to be held March 16-23.

Office helper

Your good office skills can help support an organization that teaches independent living skills to developmentally disabled adults. Duties may include answering telephones, filing, typing and/or helping with mailings in this fun and supportive setting. Hours flexible.
