The Nevada County Volunteer Action Center matches the time and talents of volunteers with opportunities to help individuals and nonprofit organizations that provide human services. For information, call 272-5041, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays; or stop by 11743 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley.

Halloween party helpers



Creative, patient volunteers needed to help with decorations, costumes, face painting and crafts. 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.




Aquatic insect collector

Nature-loving, physically fit volunteers needed by agency that promotes responsible management of natural resources. Collect and identify aquatic insects, record data, take stream measurements, and conduct visual shore walks. Must be able to hike down stream banks and carry sampling equipment. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on three or more days between Oct. 23 and Nov. 5. Training provided.

Book shelver

Help keep books available for young readers. Orientation given, weekly two-three-hour shift with a minimum of six months.

Internet instructor

Knowledge of the Internet and e mail techniques, teaching ability and public speaking experience can help seniors learn the Net. Classes at Nevada County Public Library. Training provided; six-month commitment is desired.

“Make a Difference Day” yard workers

Make a difference on Saturday, Oct. 26. Physically fit volunteers needed to clean up the yard of a disabled couple in Nevada City. One day only. Call 272 5041.
