Vietnam smoke screen

Why the consternation and hubbub about what took place in Vietnam years ago with amnesia for the My Lai massacre? Had we had digital cameras and computers during that time, the Vietnam war would have ended a lot sooner.

The jingoist and chauvinist statements cannot change the fact that war atrocities take place on both sides.

We lost the war on Vietnam to “bring democracy” because the war was based on lies, just like we will duplicate Vietnam in Iraq because the Iraq war is based on lies. This canard about 30 odd years ago in Vietnam is a smoke screen to deflect from issues facing America and the direction it is taking.

Continue with the unilateral cowboy neanderthal way or resume international unity and cooperation to secure peace. Correct the economic precariousness and oil dependence. Have an “equal” tax basis as per earning level, and improve health care for the members of society who truly need it the most.

It is time to leave Vietnam and get back to what needs to be done now in 2004.
