Van Zant, Steele to debate initiative

A meeting of the League of Women Voters of Western Nevada County will take place Sept. 14, at 9:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Community Room, 828 W. Main St. in Grass Valley.

The program will feature Peter Van Zant, serving on the Board of Supervisors representing District One, and Russ Steele, currently on the coordinating committee of Citizens for Fair and Balanced Land-Use. They will discuss local Measure D, the Property Rights Reimbursement Initiative to appear on the November ballot.

The business meeting will include a report from Joan Lancaster, voter service chair, on plans for a candidates fair Oct. 5 at the Glenbrook Plaza shopping center. In addition, the Speakers Bureau will be available to present the pros and cons of the state ballot measures to the community groups that request it.

This is a joint effort with the American Association of University Women and the media, to bring statewide and local candidates to our registered voters in Nevada County.

The public is invited to attend and hear both sides of the controversial local Measure D.
