Use working group’s maps

As one of the most vocal critics of the Natural Heritage 2020 process, we felt an obligation to see it through to the “scheduled” end date of July 23. Although the Working Group/CAC recommendations, for the most part, will not see immediate action, the Natural Resources Report and maps could be used by county staff and the public.

We felt that outside peer review of the NRR and maps was an absolute necessity. Sierra Business Council had a list of biologists and had already committed to paying those reviewers for their time. SBC agreed with our request and did pay an additional amount for outside, independent reviewers chosen by CABPRO: Field Director Pat Davison, Supervisor Sue Horne and Nevada County Contractors Association Executive Director Barbara Bashall. We appreciate SBC’s willingness to address our concerns!

The issue remains however: What do we do when questions arise about the validity of statements in the NRR and maps? We have already heard comments about changes that need to be made to the NRR and maps.

CABPRO is certainly not the entity to do that, but the county is. We repeat our request from July 23 that some process be established so public comments about the maps and report can be evaluated, clarified, rebutted, or otherwise addressed. Maybe there is already a process in place, and we are not aware of it? If that is the case, then it is possible others don’t know about such a process either.

Any answer from the county would be a step in the right direction.
