Try optimism and joy

The enormous outpouring of respect displayed following the death of Former President Reagan has restored my faith in the American people. It had become impossible to read the political ranting in our paper without wondering if good cheer and humor had vanished from Nevada County altogether.

Ronald Reagan maintained his focus and attention on what he intended to accomplish despite the unrelenting personal attacks on him by his adversaries. He always took the high road. Never once did he stoop to the level of his critics. He was a gentleman above all.

His respect for the office he held and his trust and admiration of the American people enabled him to leave a lasting, honorable and incredible legacy. I give thanks that the vast majority of Americans manage to sort out the flim-flam on their own. The Molly Ivins and Michael Moores of the world might try optimism, joy and appreciation on for size. It might catch on.
