Try being informed

This is in reply to the Other Voices column written by Tony Mociun (July 3). Though I respect his noble goals, I find his idea of registering more voters would do more to undermine the election process than it would cure. If we have to bribe people to vote, do we really want those folks voting?

If people haven’t the initiative (no pun intended) to register on their own, can we assume that they have the initiative to inform themselves to be able to vote intelligently? The number of voters or the percentage of voters who vote has no real meaning. Surely what counts is the degree to which each voter is informed. Personally I don’t want masses of people voting, just to say they’ve voted. And don’t assume that I am very well informed … but I try.
