Transportation guru?

Thanks to a recent article in The Union, I have been greeted several times of late with something like “How’s the Transportation Guru?” I consider myself a balding middle-age guy, just trying to make sense out of life. Not a likely a candidate for “Guru.” But it was in “The Paper,” so maybe?

I figured I should get an objective opinion, so I went to Webster’s Dictionary. The first definition related to spiritual leaders in eastern religions. I knew that didn’t fit. The next definition said “one who advises or counsels; a mentor”. This sounded pretty good, so I did a poll to see if others held me in such high esteem.

I asked several people if they could describe me with one word that started with “G”. My 9 year-old daughter said “guy”. My 17-year-old son said “goofy”. My 4-year-old grandson said “grandpa”. My wife said “goat”. (I threw that response out).

So three out of four people think I am a “goofy grandpa guy”, but alas, not a guru. Well, I’m OK with losing the title guru. But you know, of all the things I’ve lost lately, I miss my mind the most!
