Tough to get excited

Mike Reagan, in his Jan. 31 column, wanted to know where the excitement over the Iraqi elections was amidst our people here in America. I felt some anger rise as I read this. I think most people find it difficult to get excited for the Iraqi people because the situation is more complex than Mike Reagan presented.

If we are in Iraqi solely to help a people get free from a horrible leadership, then why have we not helped the people in Tibet? Here is a country that has been devastated by the Chinese government for well over 50 years. They have never done anything to hurt us, they do not hate us or resent us, and they are a peaceful people. Therefore, I sit here a little confused and a bit disgusted. What about Africa? They could use some help, too!

Why are we in Iraq? We have been told so many lies by this administration, who really knows? I can surmise that our intentions are not as pure as Mike Reagan suggests.

Excitement! Sorry, it is too hard to muster up excitement when so many people have been devastated by one mindless lie after another.
