Too much information

As a former business owner, I must protest a recent item by [reporter] Roman Gokhman in your Court Summary. A local contractor was sentenced for a DUI and your writer chose to publicize personal information about him that was not necessary. His offense had nothing to do with the name or nature of his business, nor with projects he has completed or will be completing.

You do not routinely publish the names of businesses or employers in this feature and I don’t know why you allowed it this time, but it was completely inappropriate to denigrate the man’s business for an unrelated offense. If he were to lose any contracts because of your statements about him, it would affect his employees and subcontractors. You editors must do a better job of controlling what your staff people write.
