Too expensive

It is with interest I read the story on Page 2 of the Oct. 30 edition of The Union where it is stated that Cal State-Chico is going to spend $46 million for a 20,000 square foot Student Services Center. Folks, that equates to a construction cost of $2,300 a square foot. To put that in perspective you would have to spend $3.45 million to build a 1,500 square foot house on property that you own.

We should all be glad it will have “the highest environmental ranking” considering the way it is going to “clean” our wallets. Quoting the article “this will be the model for 22 more CSU campuses.”

Assuming the same cost for each the total taxpayer bill will be $1.058 billion for Student Services Centers. With projects like this, it is not hard to understand why the California citizen is growing weary of being asked to pony up more hard-earned dollars for education.
