Think it through, people

I only heard the last part of a television news story tonight, but it really floored me.

Parents at a school were complaining, citing infringement of students’ rights, because the school was tracking their students with a special ID card and sensors around the school. To these administrators, I applaud them. While I believe that one of the justifications for the use of the system was to facilitate attendance, it doesn’t take an advanced degree to understand just what the real advantages are. How many of the parents of the Columbine tragedy would have loved to have known exactly where their kids were?

I am for any and all technology that would keep track of students. I would go as far as encouraging a campus wide “tractability.” Safety and security of students as well as facilities would be a positive result. Let’s put technology to work assisting our overworked school personnel to keep our children safer.
