Theft part of holiday spirit?

What is Nevada City becoming? As I was leaving my house early this morning (Dec. 9), I discovered that someone had come onto my property during the night to cut one of my 10-foot redwood trees (to be used presumably as a Christmas tree?).

My children planted the trees 15 years ago from seedlings. I live on a fairly busy street, and it seems obvious that this was pre-planned to be carried out after dark.

Is theft now part of the Christmas spirit? Are more of my trees going to be cut down? Whoever you are, does it feel good to look at “your” Christmas tree?
