Theater production worth reviewing

Nevada City I cannot understand why The Union does not review local theater, particularly the City Center Playhouse productions.

Saturday night I saw a play, “The Orphans,” at the Playhouse and it was really a stunning production – wonderfully acted, beautifully directed, funny, sad, all the elements of a fine play, and there were very few people in the audience. The brief note of the play in The Union provided the wrong dates, but without a review, it’s unlikely there would have been a large turnout anyway.

All of the members of the Community Players who stage the productions at the City Center Playhouse are volunteers who put in many, many hours of their time in order to provide entertainment for the community. The lighting, stage sets, actors – every aspect of the productions are provided by volunteers. And every production I have seen is top rate.

One would think that in a small community like ours, the only paper in town would want to alert the citizens to such fine productions by reviewing them instead of sending those who want to see theater to outlying cities. The Foothill Theater Company has a limited season, while the City Center Playhouse has something going all year. Certainly with all of the writers on your staff, you could find one capable of reviewing a play and helping to reward the efforts of a group of dedicated, striving actors and others whose only goal is to entertain the community.
