Theater of the absurd breaks out at fire board

Once a month when the North San Juan fire board meets, we are guaranteed excitement from our boring midweek routine. On Feb. 4, we were given a show beyond our expectations in the theater of the absurd.

Four board members voted to lock themselves out of the office, with one board member protesting that it was his right to visit the office. Especially at a time of a dreadful audit report, that has broad potential for disrupting the district. (Thousands are being spent to try to straighten out the mess).

The board chairman blocked discussion of the audit with the public, hoping it will disappear with all its revelations about past incompetence.

Exploring ever new levels of rude behavior, the fire chief, with the backing of the board chairman, went into a tirade of scorn as to why he couldn’t allow board members in the office, then singling out one board member and implying the fellow was a thief.

We wondered, what could be in the office that needs to be hidden?
