What is your career? California jewelry artist.

Describe in a sentence or two your art. I work in wearable jewelry: necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I also create works of art by applying beads to baskets, ceramics and clothing.

How long have you been working in this discipline? I have designed under my own label, “Misha Originals,” for more than eight years.

How did you start working in this art? I started designing hat pins, then excelled when moving on to designing jewelry.

Why do you do it? I hope to design one-of-a-kind jewelry for the wearer. I like one-of-a-kind jewelry.

What do you hope to accomplish? I enjoy teaching others basic jewelry to get them started on this very addicting but satisfying hobby.

Where do you want to be with your art, in terms of part time versus full-time status, art positions and where your works are seen? “Misha Originals” are sold in London, Los Angeles and locally at the Scotch Broom Clothing Company in Nevada City.

What’s your favorite part of your endeavors? Designing.

What’s your least favorite part of your endeavors? None. I enjoy it all.

How many hours a day, or more appropriate, a week, do you spend on your work? I create jewelry constantly, sometimes daily. Like most art, the designing takes me the longest; actually putting it together only takes a short amount of time.

Do you consider it hard work and could anyone do it? No. Anybody can do basic jewelry. I teach classes once a month at Beads Galore in Grass Valley.
