Thanks to firefighters

Because of the devastating fires as reported in The Union, everyone should express their concern for the firefighters’ safety!

The men and women on the ground are in an extremely dangerous position, not only from the intense heat and smoke but the danger in reaching the fire’s source. The fires may be in a canyon with steep cliffs on each side which are available only to mountain climbers or they may be in areas of strong winds which shift directions.

Often, the fires can be reached only by the crews of the Air Borne Water Tankers who risk their lives a dozen times a day to drop water or fire retardant. These men and women can be thanked by those of us with flagpoles.

The crews fighting the fires from the ground can be thanked, only by “Letters to the Editor.”

Would it be possible for The Union to publish the names of the groups or agencies who are taking their lives in their hands to protect the home owners and their property? Possibly group pictures could be published. It would be impossible to list all of their names in this dangerous work, but at least the group could be thanked and advised that they are recognized.
