Thanks, firefighters

A big thanks to the chief, officers, paid and volunteer men and women of Consolidated Fire Department and CDF for their swift response and heroic efforts on two major structure fires within two miles of our residence.

In this tinder-dry summer we are having, either fire could have been major disasters for our whole community. If you don’t believe me, drive by either of the sites and you can see how either of these fires could have taken off. We sleep a little better at night knowing both of these fire agencies are on duty. Thanks.

Wonderful care

The family and friends of Ron Bell wish to thank SNMH nurses and Drs. Pierce, Johnston and Lang for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Ron during his illness and also wish to thank Andy Owens from Hooper Weaver for his guidance and care. And last but not least, to Carlos, Loraine, and Mario for the wonderful luncheon and your efficiency and kindness after the funeral. We are all very appreciative.

Party picnics

As a candidate for District 1 supervisor, I attended both the Democrat and Republican parties’ annual barbeques on Aug. 22. County supervisor is a nonpartisan office, and it’s important to understand the ideas and concerns of as many people as possible, regardless of political affiliation, if we are to move forward as a community. I’m encouraged by the warm reception my wife and I received at each event. It serves to reinforce my conviction that we have a lot more in common than not. Thank you to each organization for your gracious hospitality.

Merci beaucoup

In light of the unrest and political upheaval in our world recently, I must acknowledge the incredible graciousness of Nevada County. Twenty-eight families each invited a French student into their homes for a three-week cultural stay that ended, in tears, earlier this week. Space prevents me from naming each of you. Know that your participation has fostered good will between our two countries. Your involvement, beyond what was expected, touched the hearts of those young students immeasurably. Thank you. I am also appreciative to The Union, NID, Bear River, Nevada Union and Colfax high schools for their support.
