Terrorism vs. terrorism

A letter on Aug. 19 (“Execute the families”) suggests that the best way to fight terrorism is to do what terrorists do – increasing terrorism, actually. It’s insane.

Our government could cut the terrorist threat in half if they’d quit trying to make over the world to suit multinational corporations. More would go if they stopped trying to get control of the resources and assets of smaller, poorer nations. Even more would go if they showed some respect for other cultures, even those resistant to corporate colonization.

Our government does not represent peace and democracy in the world. It brings violence and war and misuse of power. Our soldiers are not dying to protect our freedom, they’re dying to enhance the investment portfolios of the wealthiest. War is profitable for the few and damaging for everyone else.

Our country was founded for a higher destiny than this. We currently have a government of, by, and for corporate interests. We need to retrace our steps to government of, by, and for the people. Peace benefits all, and if we don’t turn in that direction now, we’ll lose everything.
