Teacher fostering democracy

I’ve worked as a precinct inspector during several recent elections, and have had the pleasant experience of having a Nevada Union student as one of our poll workers for the last two elections. My understanding is that this program was developed by Nevada Union Government teacher Jeff Delles in conjunction with the Elections Office. The students get the experience of seeing our election process first-hand, and the students have been valuable members of our polling-place team. During the day, Mr. Delles visits each polling place, then hosts a get together at the school for all his students to watch the election results. According to the students, he’s a great teacher and “makes government interesting.” Mr. Delles’ efforts are creating our future leaders in Nevada County, and I applaud him for his innovative methods. We look forward to working with more of his students at future elections.
