Swarthout may turn GV into another Roseville

Last week, The Union ran a story about two potential candidates for the upcoming Grass Valley City Council election. Candidate Lisa Swarthout stated “she wants to run to become more involved in the city’s decision making process.” Her statement got me thinking about her past decisions.

As a member of the Planning Commission and Design Review Committee, Lisa Swarthout has been responsible for a number of the new development projects approved and recently built in our town.

Take a look as you drive by the intersection of Hughes Road and East Main Street. Take a look toward Idaho Maryland Road as you drive uphill along Highway 49 from Grass Valley toward the Brunswick Basin. Take a look and then ask yourself if these building projects reflect the Grass Valley you love, or do they look like all the other new developments ravaging Roseville?

Take a look at her past decisions and ask if you want more of what you see. Then ask yourself if you want more of these Roseville-style buildings here, or do you want new developments that respect our small town?

For me, the answer is very clear. I want decisions that respect our small town qualities, not the desires of the developers. I don’t want Roseville any closer to Grass Valley than it already is.
