Suspect booked on attempted murder

A Grass Valley man accused of stabbing a former girlfriend on New Year’s Day was booked into jail late Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder.

Jose Odilio Saravia, 56, of Grass Valley, was taken from Sutter Roseville Medical Center to Wayne Brown Correctional Facility without incident, said Grass Valley Police Capt. Greg Hart.

Saravia had been in the hospital recuperating from accidental wounds that police say occurred during an attack on a 32-year-old woman at the Amigos & Co. Restaurant at 108 East Main Street in Grass Valley, where the woman worked.

Saravia is accused by authorities of repeatedly stabbing the woman. After the incident, police said she suffered neck and hand lacerations.

Police are considering the attack as an act of domestic violence and say the two had been in a relationship that ended prior to the stabbing.

The unidentified woman had been in critical condition at one point in Sutter Roseville Medical Center, but has been released from the hospital and is recuperating, Hart said.

Saravia is being held without bail. A court hearing is set today on the matter.
