Support the horse carriage company

I feel that the Nevada City Chamber and Nevada City’s merchants should indeed make a concerted effort to ensure somehow that the Nevada City Carriage Co. is able to continue to operate, as it has for so many years.

I worked for seven years, years ago, as a carriage driver in Nevada CIty and can say with assurance that many of the people who took rides about town, especially those tourists who came midweek, had come to Nevada City because they had read about, or somehow heard about, the lovely carriage rides through our quaint and historic little town. They would come to see the gardens in bloom in the spring, to take an evening’s respite from the heat in the summertime, to see fall foliage in the autumn, to take a magical ride through a town lit up for the holiday season and to get a great local history lesson any time of the year. You can be certain that these people stayed on to spend their money here, with merchants and in the restaurants, some staying in the local motels or B&Bs.

It would behoove everyone to support the carriage company, as not only does it add a peaceful ambiance to Nevada City as it seems to hurriedly attempt to move into the glitz and bustle of the new millennium, it (as well as the almost forgotten artists and musicians) has quite a lot to do with the success of Nevada City as a destination over the years (it becoming a “destination” being something which saved it from becoming just another sad and destitute remnant of the past) – this being something which has enabled many people to earn a livelihood as well as to continue to live in this very precious part of historic and rural America.
