Support Iraq war filibuster

(Mr. Byrd goes to Washington:)

All ye who weep at the observation that George Bush Sr.’s deeply held personal mythology is Armageddon (he’s reported to quote often from Revelations) … take some heart. The good senator from West Virginia is garnering support for an end-run, passionate filibuster. This coming week may well prove to be one of the most significant in world history.

It is imperative that Senator Byrd and representatives who want to support him in blocking Bush’s “Blank-check War Powers” bill be contacted now. Congresspersons who are polling for support for this last, best hope can be contacted through the Capitol switchboard: 1-800-648-3516 or (202) 224-3121. (The switchboards are swamped with calls … a good thing … please be patient.) Personal (202) 224- numbers (usually the quickest route) are as follows: Richard Lugar -4814; Dianne Feinstein -3841; Russ Feingold -5323; Joseph Biden -5042; Carl Levin -6221; Patrick Leahy -4242; Edward Kennedy -4543; Thomas Daschle -2321; Barbara Boxer -3553.

You might ask for newly emerging names of representatives who have found their backbone and want to be phoned.

Keep the peace.
