Stop the hypocrisy

The public vilification of Enron’s Mr. Kenneth Lay is becoming a bit much.

The hypocrisy of the pols, that he bought and paid for, now lining up to insult and tar a man who has not yet been charged with any crime, has crossed way over the line.

If indeed Mr. Lay is charged, tried and convicted of the crimes the various congress people accuse him of, I warmly hope he spends good bit of time in the stony lonesome contemplating his sins.

Until then, many of the people who are so affronted by his alleged deeds were recipients of his bribes; they, indeed, took some very serious and specific oaths that a corporate officeholder does not. Is this the pol calling the kettle black?

These same concerns might apply to some of the “journalists” who have long since forgotten what they presumably learned in “J school.” Factual report, not purely opinion unless on op-ed pages, would be refreshing.

If the numerous investigations that Congress has launched should bring enough evidence to warrant the attorney general to bring criminal charges that he can prove, Mr. Lay should pay dearly for his sins. It might send a warning to the various Washington recipients of bribes (aka huge campaign contributions). Till then, have a civil tongue, pols and would-be journalists.
