Stop sign speed bumps

Congratulations to both the City of Grass Valley and the company (Hanson Brothers?) contracted to do the street work on West Main Street. Over the past year or so, I have been delighted to see the gradual, almost imperceptible growth of the speed bump at the downhill stop sign at West Main and Mill streets. We are truly unique in the elegance of our attempts to make traffic safer. Not only does this simple invention prevent illegal rolling through the stop sign, it will soon ensure an increase in athleticism by pedestrians crossing Main Street as the speed bump moves slowly down the hill.

Perhaps we should adopt the “Stop Sign Speed Bump” as an alternative to roundabouts for all the busy intersections (Nevada City having already taken the “Pot Hole Speed Limit” route to new depths).

I recommend that a large plaque be erected, with appropriate ceremony, on the site. This plaque would honor both the civic genius and the unselfish concern for public safety demonstrated by our fearless leaders.
