Stop logging to save tree sitters?

A recent letter writer suggests eliminating logging to save tree sitters. What am I missing here? Let’s stop a lawful business/industry to protect trespassers who have not had a clue in their lives. Since many of us live in wood houses and use wood products, it would be an inconvenience, to say the least. I guess we could build our homes out of straw bales and old tires, but they probably wouldn’t pass some county regulations. We can, and do, in increasing amounts, import logs/wood from Russia, New Zealand and Canada. I know they have much more stringent forest practice regulations than the knuckle-dragging populace in the backward state of California.
