State’s first lady pushes Steinbeck

SACRAMENTO – Californians were urged this summer to join an effort to all read John Steinbeck’s 1939 novel ”The Grapes of Wrath.”

Now state officials hope Californians will come out in droves to discuss the book with their community.

On Monday, California first lady Sharon Davis joined Steinbeck’s son, author Thom Steinbeck, to announce hundreds of events across the state that will give people a chance to talk about the book.

More than 140 libraries received grants from the California State Library to develop programs this month.
