Spearhead’s Grass Valley revival

Wednesday night, Feb. 27 in Grass Valley several hundred Nevada County residents and a few out-of-towners jumped, stomped and sang along with the energetic music of the band Spearhead. With the crowd’s robust singing voices filling Center for the Arts, Spearhead’s Michael Franti led audience members wholeheartedly through an invigorating call and response of the band’s popular chorus, “Sometimes I Feel Like I Can Do Anything.”

Viewed for its uniqueness, Nevada County’s Center for the Arts attracts national touring acts as they pass through to the popular destinations of Tahoe-Reno, Sacramento and San Francisco. Because these acts are usually booked in those areas on the weekends, the chance to have them perform in our community may sometimes mean they are scheduled to play here during the weekdays. By providing a venue for touring acts like Spearhead, Nevada County is viewed as a role model for other small rural areas across the nation as we embrace our diversities and recognize the richness in music, art and dance.

The professional uplifting, soul-reviving music of Michael Franti’s Spearhead speaks from the heart, letting everyone in and leaving no one out. And anyone who may have attended Spearhead’s Grass Valley performance must feel extremely fortunate to have been at an event of such important magnitude.
