Skin cancer screening

The Sierra Nevada Cancer Center is sponsoring a free skin cancer screening on Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dermatologist Haines Ely, M.D., will perform visual examinations at the hospital’s Outpatient Center on a first-come, first-served basis. The screening will be held in Rooms 120-130 in the conference area.

No registration or appointments are necessary.

About 54,000 cases of melanoma – the most serious form of skin cancer – are diagnosed each year in the United States, and the melanoma rate has more than doubled since 1973, from 5.7 cases to 14.3 cases per 100,000 population. Melanoma can be treated with early detection.
