Showing respect

In regards to an opinion voiced on Aug. 19 titled, “Political hate” (letter to the editor):

It is sad that someone had so much fear and anger in regards to your belief and support of President Bush that they felt the strong impulse to leave you a rude and ignorant message. I would like to suggest that you are doing something similar. You are hitting back at this person, more politely, by denigrating a larger group of people; I believe your aim was at those Free Tibet, organic-eating, and tree-hugging folks who live in their own world, not in the real world that you live in (your quote).

I resent you lumping this rude individual in with people who hold a different belief than you – a more liberal one. Do you know if this person is a tree-hugger? Do they eat organic foods? Do they really want a free Tibet?

We all have the responsibility to examine our own anger and then rise above the cheap shots. I believe that by doing this, we show respect. With respect, I believe comes compassion and understanding for others. Call me crazy!
