Shedding more light

CCAT would like to thank the Executive Director of the Nevada County Contractors Association, Barbara Bashall, for airing her concerns about traffic issues in our community. Although Ms. Bashall’s “Other Voices” article in The Union on Thursday finds fault with CCAT’s Newsletter, “Traffic Watch,” it is important and appropriate that these issues are brought to the public’s attention.

As with many complex public issues, there may be differences of opinion and of course interpretation of the facts. CCAT stands by its authors and the researched material they presented in “Traffic Watch.” We are pleased that both CCAT’s newsletter, “Traffic Watch,” and Ms Bashall’s article have raised the issues regarding: a) the inadequacy of traffic fees; b) the inappropriate accounting of such fees; c) the questionable use of traffic funds for needed, high priority traffic projects; and d) what short and long term strategies should be adopted by our local governments with citizens involvement to resolve these issues.

CCAT invites NCCA to join us in our efforts to influence the City to correct these deficiencies as rapidly as possible.
