Shame on The Union

If The Union Editorial Board members lived down the road from Washington Ridge, I wonder if they would still support the decision to house violent adult criminals. Those of us who do live nearby are pawns for the rest of the county. We are the ones who will be affected if a prisoner escapes and decides they want a little cash, clothing or to rape and pillage before fleeing.

Shame on The Union for not even breaking the story. Kudos to Marty Cottler for bringing this to our attention.

To endorse it for the reasons you state is pernicious. Your “big” caveat to endorsement is meaningless. What promise is there the DOC will notify us about cases of violence or escape? And what promise is there they will revisit the notion if there is an escape? I cannot believe there are not enough youth incarcerated in this state that could warrant a move of some of them to this location, rather than turning it all into an adult population.

Is this a done deal? Why don’t you put some objective information on this subject in your news section? All I’ve seen on this issue has been in the opinion pages.
