I wish to express my deep concern with the Board of Supervisors’ recommendation for their 2006-’07 Budget. This budget provides no funding for the Senior Citizens Foundation, which would provide funds to serve an additional 20 home-delivered meals per day. The Senior Center currently provides home-delivered meals to approximately 180-200 clients each day Monday through Friday.

Two-hundred and twenty-five thousand, six-hundred dollars are recommended for agencies that support business and growth, and $34,500 is recommended for agencies that provide social service and quality of life. Recommendation for senior nutrition and access to affordable education and recreation is zero.

This decision is not final. The Board of Supervisors is meeting to finalize the budget Tuesday and Wednesday. Please write to the Board of Supervisors in support of the Senior Center and its programs. If you have time, please appear at the meeting at the Rood Center between 9 a.m. and noon Wednesday to show your support.

For more information call the Senior/Community Center at 273-4961.
