Seneca Falls important

July 19, 2004, marks the 156th anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention. You may be wondering what that convention was and why it is of importance. On July 19, 1848, in Seneca Falls, N.Y., “a convention to discuss the social, civil and religious condition and rights of woman” was called. This convention laid the groundwork for the creation of the legal rights of women to vote.

As the November elections approach, I encourage all the women in our community to remember the courage and endurance of those early suffragettes. They sacrificed a great deal so that we would have the right to vote. So don’t dishonor their memory by failing to exercise this important responsibility and right.

Get registered, if you’re not. Then vote, vote, vote!
